French Fashions – Spring 1901

A woman is wearing an evening gown of white with black and white lace. The gown has a very deep square neckline edged with a border of lace. The front of the bodice is softly gathered and has a pattern of small black dots. The sleeves are gathered at the shoulder, have the black dot pattern, and lace edging with deep points at the elbows. The white skirt shows at the center front, and at the sides and back is covered with a black lace over skirt with a square border at about knee length. The edges are of lace in a pattern of connected ovals. The upper section has an elaborate floral pattern, and the lower section below the square border has the black dot pattern. She wears a large deep pink flower at the right side of her neckline. She is wearing elbow length white gloves and is holding a closed white fan. Her hair is waved and done up in a knot.
