Cover of the April 1931 edition of the Soviet magazine “Bezbozhnik u stanka” (The Atheist at the Workbench), which was an anti-religious propaganda publication. The image is an example of Soviet propaganda photomontage, aimed at promoting the International Day of Proletarian Solidarity, May 1st, and militant atheism.
The magazine was the organ of the Central Council of the League of Militant Atheists of the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). It was published between 1923 and 1931 under that name, and its circulation reached 200,000 copies in 1932.
