This genuine 1812 Regency fashion plate illustrates an elegant summer walking gown, documented as a Promenade Dress, originally published in London by Rudolph Ackermann for his iconic monthly periodical, The Repository of Arts. Created by the acclaimed milliner Mrs. Gill of Cork Street, this fine copperplate engraving perfectly encapsulates the high-waisted Empire silhouette that defined early 19th-century British and Neoclassical women’s clothing.

The ensemble features a plain white jaconet muslin dress designed with a high neckline, detailed needlework, and vertical ruffles cascading down the front of the skirt to the hemline. Draped gracefully over her shoulders is a coordinating light satin hussar cloak or shawl, adorned with delicate floss trimming and miniature decorative tassels. The garments reflect the historic Regency preference for light, breathable Indian cottons and sheer muslins during the warmer summer months.

The styling is elevated by historically significant Regency accessories. The lady wears a distinguished Lavinia straw hat woven from moss straw, worn over a fine lace cap and fastened with cerulean blue silk ribbons tied securely in a bow under her chin. She stands in a scenic park landscape beside a rustic, woven garden bench, holding a long-handled, fringed teal parasol with a vibrant blue-green canopy in her yellow-gloved hand. This plate serves as a crucial historical reference for costume designers, textile historians, and researchers of late Georgian era material culture.
