Dating to the spring of 1821, this hand-colored copperplate engraving comes from Rudolph Ackermann’s highly influential London journal, the “Repository of Arts”. The illustration introduces a distinctive “Promenade Dress” style from the later stage of the Regency era, showcasing the visual shift toward more structured garments, heavier hem ornamentations, and complex textural details that began to define British high-society street style during the early 1820s.

Textural Details of the Blue Pelisse Gown and Bonnet

The antique print depicts a woman ascending a stone staircase wearing a long-sleeved, soft blue pelisse-style gown that fastens securely down the front. The garment features an empire waist accentuated by a thin matching belt, highlighted by three large vertical blue bows cascading down the front of the pleated skirt. The look is styled with an intricate lace-trimmed white ruff collar, matching long gloves, and an elaborate pink-lined blue bonnet adorned with delicate ostrich plumes and a sheer white lace veil.
