Evening Dress – Winter 1821

A woman wears an evening dress from 1821. She wears a long white dress with a low cut, square neck edged with a narrow ruffle. At the center is a white brooch or button. A white ribbon defines the empire waist. A small, short, sheer apron is attached to the front of her dress at the waist. A round, white bead is sewn onto each bottom corner and two designs of baskets with flowers are stitched onto the front of the apron. She wears white shoes and a gold armband on each of her upper arms. She holds a red shawl behind her. The shawl is hemmed by a gold band and a round gold bead hangs off each corner. She rests her right elbow on a tall pedestal to her right. A large Greek-influenced presentation vase rests on the pedestal. She stands with her ankles crossed and looks to her left.
