This beautiful 19th-century hand-colored lithograph features a full-length portrait of Elisabeth d’Autriche (Elisabeth of Austria), Queen of France and wife to King Charles IX. Based on an original archival illustration by Gaignières dated 1570, the plate captures her formal and regal stance within the royal court.
Late Renaissance French Queen Gown and Luxurious Jewels
The Queen wears an opulent white and gold court gown decorated with an intricate floral brocade pattern and a heavily jeweled front girdle. Her magnificent Renaissance silhouette is elevated by large hanging fur-lined sleeves, a structured white lace ruff collar around her neck, and a delicate jeweled tiara perched on her hair.
