This rare 1837 hand-colored fashion engraving from the iconic Parisian journal Petit Courrier des Dames exemplifies the heightened romance of pre-Victorian style. The antique print displays a traditional church or study setting, highlighting the era’s signature wide drop-shoulder necklines, tightly corseted waistlines, and bell-shaped pleated skirts. These exquisite French plates were highly regarded across European high society as the definitive source for sourcing luxury textiles and bridal inspirations.
Antique Silk Lace Wedding Gown and Velvet Spencer Jacket
The vintage French typography outlines a magnificent wedding costume (costume de mariée) alongside a formal Longchamp promenade dress (toilette de Longchamp). On the left, the bride wears a stunning blonde silk lace gown (robe en dentelle de soie) by Mesdames Violard et Chimenti, paired with a long cascading veil and a floral coiffure by Monsieur Imbert. On the right, the companion models a rich green velvet spencer jacket (spencer en velours) by Madame Desertine, completed by a straw bonnet (chapeau en paille de riz).
