This authentic 1836 hand-colored fashion plate from the Parisian journal Petit Courrier des Dames captures the quintessential style of the late Romantic era. The antique print depicts a church interior where a bride stands near a balustrade, beautifully illustrating the dramatic silhouettes that preceded the Victorian period. Characterized by wide drop-shoulder necklines, voluminous gigot sleeves, and heavily ornamented skirts, these French engravings served as the absolute authority on global bridal luxury.

The historical text highlights an exquisite costume de mariée styled by elite Parisian artisans, featuring a tulle robe (robe en tulle blonde) from Madame Popelin. The wedding dress is adorned with large decorative bows, intricate floral embroidery along the hem, and delicate lace details.
