American Fashions – Spring 1904

A dark haired woman stands in a three-quarter pose with her head turned in profile to display her elaborate up-swept hairstyle. She wears a rose colored long gown with floral patterned sleeves, lower bodice, and insets on the skirt. The dress has a square neckline with a few soft pleats creating fullness in front over the bust.

The upper bodice reaches just below her bustline and ends in three wide zigzags front and back. The floral lower bodice is softly gathered into a light rose satin waist. The upper cap sleeves of rose have soft gathers at the armhole, and bands of trim on the top of the sleeve. The lower floral sleeves are full to the elbow, then are gathered into snug sleeves fitted from elbow to wrist. The skirt flares from the waist into a full trumpet hemline. The skirt is flat at the front, and gathered softly at sides and back, with three bands of decorative stitching across the hips.

Two bands of ornately shaped floral pattern decorate the skirt just below the knee on each side. This is an outfit for the home, as the model wears neither hat nor gloves. A small back view of the dress is at the right side of the plate.
