Riding Habits – 1850

Two women are depicted riding their horses in a wood. The woman in the back wears a maroon flat brimmed hat with a matching plume. Her hair is in a low bun and her jacket, in a matching maroon, has a plain collar and is long sleeved. The woman in front wears a purple hat with a veil in back and her hair in a low bun, like the first woman. She is riding sidesaddle in navy riding habit. Her jacket has military elements, such as large cuffs and a tasseled trimmings on the cuffs and bodice. In the front a hunting dog, and in the back is a lightly sketched figure of a man on horseback. There is a wooden sign post with four arms near the riding path.
