Riding Dresses – 1832

An authentic 1830s hand-colored fashion engraving titled “Modes de Paris” from the famous French periodical Petit Courrier des Dames. This historical print showcases early 19th-century summer equestrian attire (Amazone – Costume d’été). The illustration features two views of the outfit. In the foreground, a lady walks in full-length profile view, holding a riding crop. She wears a brown high-waisted linen skirt with a wide belt, a white pleated batiste bodice (canezou) with voluminous gigot sleeves, a red neck scarf, and a straw top hat wrapped in a white veil. In the background, the reverse view shows a second lady in a matching green skirt, riding side-saddle on a white horse. Complete with detailed French publication credits and the London publisher line “Published by S. and J. Fuller” at the bottom, this rare plate is an exceptional resource for antique print collectors and costume historians.
