Promenade Dress – Winter 1828

An antique, hand-colored fashion plate from December 1825, titled “Promenade Dress” at the bottom. The illustration depicts a young woman seated in profile on a mossy, green mound against a plain, off-white background.

She is dressed in elegant late-Regency period attire, featuring a voluminous gray-blue cloak or mantle over a dark black skirt. The edges of her cloak are intricately cut into sharp, triangular zigzag points known as vandyke spikes. Her hands are elegantly folded in her lap, covered in light gray gloves.

On her head, she wears an oversized, highly structured dark gray bonnet adorned with a prominent, matching silk ribbon bow at the back. Underneath the wide brim of the hat, a delicate white ruffled lace cap frames her face. At the very bottom, fine cursive text attributes the print to No. 36 of R. Ackermann’s Repository of Arts.
