Amedeo Modigliani and Paul Alexander were close friends, and Dr. Paul Alexander was the artist’s first patron, serving as Modigliani’s primary and only financial supporter for several years. Modigliani painted several works of Alexander, including five portraits between 1909 and 1913, which are now part of important art collections.
