This hand-colored 1837 French fashion plate from the magazine Petit Courrier des Dames depicts two elegant women in an outdoor setting against a stone balustrade. The standing woman on the right wears a tailored greyish-brown riding habit (costume d’amazone) made of nankeen fabric, decorated with passementerie embroidery down the bodice, paired with a white collar, a black bow, and a light-colored beaver hat adorned with feathers while holding a riding crop.
The seated woman on the left wears a luxurious peach-colored silk dress trimmed with extensive tiers of black lace, complemented by an elaborate white organdie bonnet with pink ribbons, resting her arm on a wooden chair with a red velvet cushion.
