Covers the Arctic Ocean and Arctic landmasses adjacent to it. Does not show navigational data other than names of coastal ports and coastal physical features. Title printed at map center in a circle around the North Pole. Oriented with Greenwich meridian at the bottom.
Hemmed at sheet edges with pink fabric; mounted on cloth backing; sectioned to 16 panels to enable folding. Includes attributional notes in lower margin. Signed on cloth backing in ink script on verso: North Polar Sea 1855, Millard Fillmore 1856.
