Morning Dress – Autumn 1826

The woman wears a pink morning dress with three wide scalloped flounces at the hem, up to knee level. The sleeves of the dress are long and fitted, with yellow bands at the cuff. They are puffed at the top of the sleeve. A belt with a gold square buckle fastens at the woman’s natural waist, and the collar of the dress is composed of two layers of white fabric which lie across the shoulders. The woman wears a lacy, white cap that ties with gold-edged pink ribbons. Her stockings are white; her shoes are flat and brown; and she wears light yellow gloves. The woman is pulling a colored sketch of flowers from a large, pink portfolio which closes with blue ribbons. The book rests on a double-tiered footstool which is decorated with gold and upholstered in blue and green. The woman is inside and standing on a patterned, tiled floor.
