Regency Maritime Excursion: 19th-Century Morning Dress and Boating Silhouette
This unique hand-colored fashion plate introduces a distinctive nautical or seaside excursion theme, rare for early nineteenth-century engravings. Titled “Morning Dress,” the illustration depicts an aristocratic lady stepping carefully off a wooden rowing boat onto a stone harbor dock via a wooden gangplank. She models a classic high-waisted white muslin Empire line gown with delicate gathering at the bust and long narrow sleeves, beautifully capturing the practical yet refined outdoor attire worn by the Georgian gentry during coastal vacations and maritime promenades.
Indigo Blue Shawls, Yellow Kid Gloves, and Historic October Publishing Metadata
Draped elegantly over her right arm is a rich indigo blue cashmere shawl with an ornate fringed border, which adds a deep contrasting layer to her crisp white attire. The walking figure is styled with a simple straw bonnet that frames her dark curls, vibrant yellow kid leather gloves, and matching yellow slippers. At the base of the print, the clean typography reads “Published for the Proprietors, OCTOBER 1,” alongside faint artist signature marks, providing excellent archival metadata and highly specific long-tail keywords regarding antique boating scenes, seaside fashion, and historical outerwear indexing.
