Nineteenth-Century German Cartography of Denmark and the Baltic
This detailed antique map, titled “Daenemark mit seinen Nebenlaendern in Europa,” was drawn by C.F. Weiland and published in 1856 by the Geographical Institute of Weimar. The historical engraving depicts the Kingdom of Denmark alongside the Duchies of Schleswig, Holstein, and Lauenburg, mapping out regional topography, early rail corridors, and coastal maritime borders along the North Sea and the Baltic Sea (Die Ost See).
Scandinavian Territories and Copenhagen Harbor Insets
An exceptional feature of this archival document is the inclusion of multiple geographic insets showcasing Denmark’s nineteenth-century dependencies. The map layout features detailed regional surveys of Iceland (Jsland) and the Faroe Islands (Far-Öer Inseln), complemented by a precise city and fortification plan of the capital, Copenhagen (Kopenhagen), making it an invaluable resource for European history enthusiasts.
