Indifferent Young Lady – 1710

A young woman wears a light blue dress and faces away from the viewer. The dress shows the back detailing of the fashionable bustled silhouette with a white underskirt with a deep ruffle at the hem. The skirt falls into a train, and there is a row of pleated white ruffles at the waist, which follows the shape of the bustle. There are two rows of pleated white ruffles at the neck and the woman wears a mantelet in the Circassienne style from Caucasia and a a yellow, speckled shawl. The woman’s cap or bonnet is white with a wide striped red and yellow ribbon. She appears to be wearing a white wig, with either a lock of brown hair or a brown ribbon hanging out the back. Her shoes are white with white rosettes.
