A Chinese propaganda poster from April 1978 titled “What I Longed For Has Arrived”. The artwork captures a smiling young female military cook or service worker in a commercial kitchen setting. She is wearing a green People’s Liberation Army (PLA) uniform with red collar insignia, a matching cap adorned with a red star, and a long white kitchen apron. In her right hand, she proudly and joyfully holds a crisp red copy of Volume V of the “Selected Works of Mao Zedong”. The background features a large rustic brick or stone cooking stove emitting steam and a large metallic cooking pot. The overall style utilizes soft, painterly gouache and watercolor textures typical of the late 1970s transition period.
