French Fashions – Winter 1899

A woman is standing in an elegant room resting her arm on the back of a large red velvet upholstered chair. She is wearing a light green and pink dress. The light pink under-dress consists of many rows of tiered frills from the neck to the hem. The over dress is pale green with wide bands of floral brocade at the center front opening, increasing in width as they near the hem. Matching floral patterns adorn the hems of the elbow length sleeves, which end with pink ruffles, and trim the hem of the skirt at the back, where the skirt extends into a short train. The shoulders have three tiers of pink ruffles, and the collar is very high of pink with a green edge, forming a raised frame for her face. Her hair is done up high on her head in curls.
