French Fashions – Winter 1846

Two women converse in a parlor. The woman on the left is seated in a large yellow armchair and wears a pink bonnet with ruffle and bow detailing. She is dressed in a bright cobalt blue dress with long sleeves. Her white lace collar is fastened at the center with a brooch. Small ruffles decorate the shoulders, cuffs and skirt of the dress. She holds a handkerchief in her left hand and wears cream gloves. The woman on the right stands, wearing a black bonnet with pink lining and ribbon ties. A swath of black lace decorates the side of the bonnet. She is dressed in a gray gown over a white blouse with a narrow collar. The dress is embellished with pairs of tassels down the neckline and center front of the skirt. She wears a pair of cream gloves. In the background is a small table covered in a maroon cloth which supports two large, white candelabras.
