French Fashions – 1867

Two women and a young girl are in a garden with a classical sculpture behind them. The woman on the left wears a green cap edged with a white band with small tassels or bobbles, and a wide green ribbon tied under her chin, with the ends reaching to her waist. Her dress is tan with a scalloped edging at the hem and on the jacket. Her matching jacket is long sleeved and has a plain collar. The scalloped pattern is repeated down the back and along the hems.

At the back, at the pointed ends of the jacket tails, there are two tassels. She carries a green parasol in her left hand with white fringe on the scalloped edges. The little girl in the center wears a white flat cap with a red ribbon, over a black snood. Her white jumper dress has a square neck and short sleeves. There are buttons down the back of her bodice, and a wide red sash tied around her waist. Her jumper has red edging around the hem, neck, and armholes. Under her jumper she wears a white blouse with pin tucks on the bodice. Her blouse has a jewel neck with a narrow ruffle, buttons at the back, and long sleeves.

She has matching red boots. The woman on the right wears a white lace cap with a white ribbon tied under her chin. Her dress is light blue with a narrow white lace collar and long sleeves. She has white lace detailing in three stripes along the hem of her skirt, at her shoulders, and end of her sleeves. The skirt has white lace stripes radiating from her waistline that each end in tassels. All the skirts are very wide; it is the height of the crinoline fashion.
