Fashions – Winter 1888

Seven women stand in a row. The woman on the left wears a high-collared, copper red dress with a small cloak. Velvet lapels and velvet fronts on the skirt are crossed with cords, with fancy frogs on each side. She carries a matching velvet muff, and wears a matching hat trimmed with a tan bird decoration with folded ribbons.

She wears small pearl earrings. The second woman from the left is wearing a dark brown coat trimmed in lighter red brown fur on the cuffs, collar, and hem. Fancy decorations in brown on brown edge the center front, the neckline, and the sleeves at the shoulder. Her underskirt is pleated deep rose pink velvet with a striped pink and brown draped overskirt. Her deep pink hat is decorated with white plumes and egret feathers and she is wearing pearl earrings.

The third woman is wearing a high-collared striped dress of blue, yellow, and copper. The yoke of her bodice has three pointed bands of the colors of her gown at the back. Her hat is brown with a medium turned up brim and is decorated with blue ribbon and a feathered bird. The woman in the center is wearing a red brown velvet jacket with a swirled pattern and brown fur edging. The front is pleated with a section hanging down to knee length with a fancy fastening at the waist.

Her skirt is light blue pletad over a black underskirt. Her hat is brown trimmed with blue plumes and ribbons. The next woman is wearing a grey and black dress, with black velvet on the bodice, sleeves and skirt front. Bands of pleated trimming edge the jacket, and the skirt back and form a long sash which has bobbles at the ends. Her hat is black trimmed with black ribbons and white plumes. She wears pearl earrings.

The woman second from the right is wearing a black velvet hip length jacket, with patterned black on black edging. Her dress is yellow with a pattern of medium red flowers draping over a yelllow underskirt. Her hat is black velvet trimmed with a yellow plume, an dshe waers pearl earrings. The woman on the right is wearing a black patterned coat lined with grey fur and is holding a gray fur muff.

Her dress is yellow and her hat is black, tied with black ribbons. All the women are wearing gloves.
