Fashions – Summer 1845

Two women are out of doors. The left one wears her hair in a bun with a pink flower in her hair. Her white dress has a ruched bodice and upper sleeves, and a deep ruffle at the hem. A a pink ribbon is tied around the waist. She wears a white scarf with lavendar strips at the hem that is trimmed with a deep fringe. The woman on the right wears a flat brimmed straw picture hat tied with a black ribbon. Her blue dress has black pinstripes and a high round neck with a white ruffle. Her sleeves are three quarter length and flair out at the hem. She carries a small brown book or box in her left hand, and rests her right hand on the first woman’s arm as they walk in front of a fence. A large tree is visible in the background.
