This fine 19th-century hand-colored lithograph features a full-length portrait of a nobleman from the court of King Louis XIII. Labeled “Cour de Louis XIII” and dated 1630, the artwork showcases an aristocratic cavalier standing in three-quarter profile with an outdoor balustrade background.
Early Baroque Cavalier Uniform and Accoutrements
The gentleman wears a striking sky-blue ensemble featuring a structured doublet with open sleeves and matching breeches trimmed with white lace ruffles. His look is completed by a dark brown sash, a matching blue shoulder cloak, white stockings, rosetted shoes, and a broad-brimmed hat adorned with white plumes.
