French Fashions – 1892

Two women are standing on steps in front of a railing with a tiered semicircular design. The woman on the left is wearing a long velvet black coat over a fur-edged grey dress. The coat has full three quarter length sleeves with gathers at the hem, and just above at the elbow. The pointed collar, center front edges, and narrow flaring cuffs, have a band of curving, twined design. The cuffs are lined with pink, and the coat is fatened at the center front with a small satin bow, the ends hanging to the hem of the coat. She is wearing a grey bonnet, with a scooped brim, lined with pink, and trimmed with grey plumes and pink bows.

The bonnet is tied with a pink bow under her chin. She wears long grey gloves, a gold bangle bracelet on each wrist, and holds a closed black umbrella. The woman on the right is wearing a red satin dress with a black collar, black cuffs, and a black tie at the waist. Asymmetrically down the left side of the dress is a black band, with a bow at the shoulder, waist, and just above the hem. The sleeves are very full and are gathered into long cuffs reaching just below the elbow. She rests her left hand on the back of a wicker chair, which has a blue shawl draped over its arm.
